A Relatable Slice of History
Think of this feast as the grand exit to Mary’s earthly life—one that’s been whispered in stories since the early Church. Tradition tells us that when Mary passed away, her body wasn’t left behind. In fact, when the tomb was opened, it was found empty—and so the early Christians believed that she was taken body and soul into Heaven.
Fast forward many centuries: in 1950, Pope Pius XII formally said, “Yes, you were right all along”—through the document Munificentissimus Deus, he declared the Assumption a solemn dogma.
In other words? What felt like poetic tradition has deep roots—and today, we celebrate it knowing it has become a fundamental expression of faith.
Why This Matters (Now!)
This feast reminds us that Heaven isn’t just a distant idea—it’s real, hopeful, and attainable. It’s a sign that faithful living has beautiful, eternal rewards. So when you come to Mass, you’re not just keeping tradition—you’re joining centuries of hope and celebration that connect you directly with Mary and with believers past, present, and future.
